Making a New Bridge (Alvarez Acoustic)
This guitar was missing its original bridge, and the design is one that doesn't match any standard bridges available, so I had to make a new one from scratch. I started out by making a paper template of the area the bridge had to cover. One tricky aspect of this bridge was that the bridge pin holes follow a curved instead of a straight line.

After routing the saddle slot and drilling the bridge pin holes, I started with the rough shaping. |
This is the bridge after fine-tuning the height and overall shape. |
|
I then used two bridge pins to temporarily locate the bridge while I marked the bridge's outer shape using masking tape. |
With the bridge area marked off, I used a sharp chisel to scrape off any old glue residue or finish that was in the way, leaving bare wood to glue the bridge onto. |
|
This shows the bridge being glued down and clamped in place. When gluing a bridge, I leave it clamped down for at least 24 hours. |
After doing the final cleanup, I reglued the original pickguard in place and set up the guitar. It's finally ready to be enjoyed again! |
