Making a New Bridge (Alvarez Acoustic)

This guitar was missing its original bridge, and the design is one that doesn't match any standard bridges available, so I had to make a new one from scratch.  I started out by making a paper template of the area the bridge had to cover.  One tricky aspect of this bridge was that the bridge pin holes follow a curved instead of a straight line.

After routing the saddle slot and drilling the bridge pin holes, I started with the rough shaping.

This is the bridge after fine-tuning the height and overall shape.

I then used two bridge pins to temporarily locate the bridge while I marked the bridge's outer shape using masking tape.

With the bridge area marked off, I used a sharp chisel to scrape off any old glue residue or finish that was in the way, leaving bare wood to glue the bridge onto.

This shows the bridge being glued down and clamped in place.  When gluing a bridge, I leave it clamped down for at least 24 hours.

After doing the final cleanup, I reglued the original pickguard in place and set up the guitar.  It's finally ready to be enjoyed again!
